Community Events: Historic Days

Saturday September 24, 2011
Hours: 10:00-5:00
Historic Day is the center’s biggest event of the year. Held in Community Park (by
Weyenberg Library & behind Logemann), this free event is open to the public and encourages
residents of all ages to celebrate local heritage. The focal point is an interactive historic campsite
depicting life in the early 1800’s including a blacksmith, German immigrant family, flintnaper, primitive musician/fur trader, plus spinners and weavers. The event is also used as an educational tool for schools.

Other popular
attractions are carriage rides, local historic displays, fiddlers, and food and artisan vendors. Children are encouraged to complete a Journey Map to earn a wooden
nickel. A new tradition has begun featuring an 1800s exhibition baseball game on Historic Rennicke Field.
Every year, the day before the event, local
4th grade classes studying early America are invited to tour the historic campsite privately and
free of charge in a highly educational and interactive setting greatly appreciated by the parochial & public school districts.
Last year, Logemann was able to put on the event with new food vendors, new reenactors, and more. The event was enjoyed by hundreds of people, even though the weather gave us a chilly day!
Historic Days at the Logemann Center is a great event for the entire community, and brings together Mequon's past, present, and future. For more information, call our office at 262-242-7471.
"Historic School Day is a worthwhile educational experience for local children to learn about history. It brings history alive."
